Math Update
We are in the middle of our Expressions Unit. We tested two sections of that unit before break and will test the last three sections in the next week or so. Please plan for the last parts of the unit to be tested by 4/22. Our next unit continues the algebra measurement topics, but it extends to writing and solving equations and inequalities. Please note that with M-Step dates, we will need to take some time away from learning to test. Please check the google calendar for the M-Step dates. Please try to avoid absences for your child during those times. Thank you!
If your child is behind in standards from 1st or 2nd semester, go over powerschool with them and see what they can work on at home to get back on track. Please remember that advisory is available almost every day for students that need assistance with current or previous standards.
While we have not had a great deal of homework, it is a grade-level expectation to complete some practice outside of class. If your child is not filling out and showing you their agenda each day, please check powerschool to see how your child is progressing in levels of understanding. If you see that they are not completing work or showing evidence of learning, work with your child to help them find a better plan.
This math link has many 6th grade common core resources, games, and practices. This is a great site for extra practice and review.
I can't stress enough that knowing multiplication math facts (1 X 1 through 12 X 12) are VITAL for success in middle school math and beyond. Please practice facts with your child if they can't say the answers in three seconds or less. There are some great online practice sites too, like XtraMath, mathfactspro, or math flash cards on Fact Monster.
Just a reminder, with our personal mastery model, students that have proven they have the necessary skills will have the opportunity for formal assessments (the "tests") and get to move on to new standards. Students that have not provided evidence (students with missing work) will create a plan to work with a teacher and at home to show understanding and will get to test when they have proven they are ready. We know that all students learn at different rates and in different ways. If your child is not ready for the test when it is given, the opportunity to keep working will be provided, but they will need to work at home as well. Please check powerschool regularly to make sure your child is completing assignments to provide evidence of learning, and if you see a problem, talk to them about ways you can support them at home, while we support them at school.

Science Update
We are in the beginning phases of our water cycle and weather unit. This week, students will explore the water cycle in depth so they can create their own model, including all phases of the water cycle and the role of gravity and or energy from the sun in each phase. We began this unit before spring break. We will most likely finish the unit before camp, unless the M-Step schedule interferes with lessons and classes.
