Social Studies Info
In Social Studies this year, we have a focus on the Western Hemisphere which includes North and South America. We will study the geography, history, culture, and government for the countries in the Western Hemisphere.
Another main focus of Social Studies this year is current events. Every day we watch CNN Student news, which is a news program geared towards Middle and High School students. Students have a current events notebook, which they take notes in every day to keep track of what is happening around the world. They also have a world map that they label as they hear the names of countries in the news each day. CNN is helping students to develop a more in-depth world view while also promoting a positive atmosphere for discussion. This is a great chance for you to have discussions with your child about what is going on in the world!
